At Goodwood Theatre, 166a Goodwood Rd, Goodwood

In 16th-century Spain, the Spanish Inquisition is in full swing. Crown Prince Carlos is betrothed to Princess Elisabeth of France – until his tyrannical father, King Philip II, decides it would be better politics for him to marry Elisabeth himself.

Written by Schiller, adapted by Garson Konin for Independent Theatre, the play is a taut political thriller, brim-full of back-stabbing intrigue, interwoven with timeless debates about liberty, justice, power, tolerance, freedom of conscience and legitimacy of government.
Tickets $32.50 (early bird may be $22.50?). Collect at theatre on night. Dinner at Manee Siam Restaurant, 150 Goodwood Rd, Goodwood at 5.45 pm.
